Pediatric Psychological Evaluations
At Kalamazoo Child and Family Counseling, we specialize in pediatric psychological evaluations to assess a range of developmental, emotional, and cognitive concerns in children and adolescents, including but not limited to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, anxiety disorders, depression, behavioral disorders, and trauma-related conditions. While we can provide screening and preliminary assessment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), we do not currently offer comprehensive autism evaluation services. Our evaluations help identify strengths and areas of need, guiding appropriate treatment planning and support. Comprehensive Psychological Evaluations consist of several steps to ensure exceptional quality and accurate care.

The Evaluation Process
Kalamazoo Child and Family Counseling is a center for excellent. Our commitment to high quality care means our evaluations are thorough, accurate and helpful. Our evaluations consist of multiple steps to ensure a thorough understanding of each child’s needs:
- Initial Consultation – A clinical interview with caregivers to gather background information, including developmental history, family dynamics, school performance, and social relationships.
- Standardized Testing – Administration of age-appropriate assessments tailored to the child’s concerns. This may include cognitive, academic, emotional, or behavioral measures to provide a comprehensive picture of the child’s functioning. Testing sessions are often four to six hours in length.
- Observation & Interaction – Structured interactions to assess behavior, social skills, and emotional responses. This can take place in a clinical setting, through parent and teacher questionnaires, or direct observation in school or home environments when needed.
- Collateral Information Gathering – Input from teachers, pediatricians, or other relevant professionals to ensure a holistic view of the child’s needs and functioning across different settings.
- Comprehensive Report – A detailed analysis of findings, including diagnostic impressions, recommendations for intervention, and accommodations for school or home.
- Feedback Session – A meeting with caregivers to discuss results and next steps for intervention or treatment. Recommendations may include therapy, educational supports, behavioral strategies, or referrals to additional specialists as needed.
